Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • Based on what we know from this passage, how does Nicodemus differ from the other characters already presented in John’s gospel? What does his interaction with Jesus indicate he is searching for?

  • Take a look at the two other instances where Nicodemus surfaces in the book of John (Chapter 7 & Chapter 19). How do you see Nicodemus’ understanding of Jesus changing over the course of this gospel?

  • How does our world tend to handle definitive statements of belief, such as Jesus being the Son of God, or a relationship with Jesus being the only way to know God?

  • Are there examples in your own life where you have engaged in healthy discussion with others around faith that do not know Jesus?

  • Have you ever had any moments or periods of doubt in your faith? How does Jesus’ interaction with Nicodemus speak into these doubts?

  • Read John 3:16-17 again. How do these verses most speak to you today?

  • Thank God for his amazing gift of salvation and relationship together.

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?
